Since I managed to enable [Quectel] EM05-CN on NixOS, this seems to be the right place to share the experience so more enthusiasts can build on top or improve.
On latest X1 Gen 12 (and others) laptops there is a locked modem that can't be easily replaced with any other modem (some bios checks).
Modem unlock script is provided by Lenovo in https://github.com/lenovo/lenovo-wwan-unlock repo for ubuntu and fedora. It required some efforts to enable it for NixOS, and the supported laptop - modem list is attached in the end.
I notified lenovo support team about issues that made it hard to adopt their work for NixOS here, hopefully, that can be improved in next releases.
