default account for new contacts not changing to Davx5

I've successfully installed davx5 on my android (14) and it is syncing to my Fastmail account properly. I have changed the setting "Default Account for new contacts" to davx5 on my google contacts app. However, when I add a new contact through the google contacts app, it continues to default to my google account and I have to remember to manually select the davx5 account. I've searched the internet and have not found anyone else having this issue. I understand that it's probably an issue with android or google but hoping someone here may have a solution.

I tried turning of syncing to my to my google account and then it removed the option to save to my google account and my davx5 became the default account for new contacts.

I have same problem and fixed it with your comment. Of course this is an issue with Google but awesome to find an answer
