We are proud to announce the first release of ohsome-planet (version 1.0.0), codename “Kawésqar”. 🥳
Kawésqar
The Kawésqar National Park is located in the far South of Chile. It is named after the Kawésqar people who arrived in that area about seven thousand years ago. It is not only the second largest national park in Chile, but also among the largest in the world. [1]
When it comes to its representation in OpenStreetMap (OSM) the relation/5446634 clearly bursts all limits. As of March 2025 we count 644 major OSM versions, which is already an achievement. However, when considering all minor geometric changes to its members this will reveal the full truth: There have been 9669 versions of the Kawésqar National Park in OSM. When generating the geometries of all these version you'll end up with roughly 190 GB (uncompressed) just for this element. 🤯
Apparently, the last version of this relation returns a broken MultiPolygon
. So there's some more fixing to be done. We are looking forward to explore these future versions of this truly exceptional OSM element with the ohsome-planet tool.
